Vocabulary, grammarand everything between.
Five skills — vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening and kanji — across three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Over 1,700 questions, so there is always something that fits today.
Listening questions are read aloud, and vocabulary and grammar can be switched between kanji and hiragana, so kanji never blocks your progress.

Grow togetherwith a favourite.
Collect coins and draw from the gacha. From a little guardian-lion pup to the dragon god, the companions come straight out of Japanese folklore.

One question at a time,deeper into the forest.
Move one tile at a time through the Beginner Forest. Every step brings monsters, bosses and something new to try.
Open treasure chests for coins and items, use your boosts and push on. What you have learned is what clears the path.

06 / GUILD & FRIENDS
Someone else is studying too,and it helps.
A guild is a study room you share. Correct answers damage the guild boss, and everyone chips away at it together. Weekly missions are a team effort too.
Swap codes to add friends. Borrow a friend’s companion as a helper and it will back you up in the dungeon and against guild bosses.

Put what you knowto the test.
Earn league points from quizzes and compete for the weekly ranking. Bronze to Master — promotion is the goal.
You can also challenge league members to one-on-one quiz duels. A correct answer damages your opponent, a wrong one damages you. Your knowledge and your companion win it together.

The things people usually want to know first.
Is Nihongo Quest free?
Yes. It is a free download on the App Store, and almost everything — study mode, the dungeon, gacha, guilds, the league and review — is free to use. Removing ads, the progress charts and a larger friend list are part of the paid Premium plan. There are also in-app purchases such as coins.
Can I use it if I cannot read Japanese?
Yes. The app interface is available in English, 日本語, 한국어 and 简体中文, and every question comes with a translation and an explanation in the language you choose (English, 한국어 or 简体中文). It is built for people starting Japanese from scratch.
What can I study?
Five areas — vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening and kanji — across three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. There are over 1,700 questions. Listening questions are read aloud, and vocabulary and grammar can be shown in kanji or hiragana.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad, running iOS 16.0 or later. Your study data is saved to your account, so you can pick up where you left off even after reinstalling.
Can I review the questions I get wrong?
Yes. Wrong answers are recorded automatically and come back after 1 day, 3 days and 7 days. Get one right all three times and it is recorded as mastered. Review is free to use.
Can I play alone? Do I have to join a guild or the league?
You can play entirely on your own. Study mode and the dungeon are more than enough on their own. Guilds, friends and the league are all optional.
